CHRISTMAS 2021 PORTRAITS IN NEW CLOTHES

Joy and abundance filled the air this Christmas season at our resource center in Kenya as Give Amore spread love through gifts, teaching and celebration of the eminent birth of our savior Jesus Christ. Our children had the time of their life, some indulging in their favorite meals and beverages, something that isn’t as common in their homes and daily routines. Topping the list of gifts this time and every other year was new clothes for all our sponsored children, a tradition so popular in the African culture, as well as extra food and toiletries.

2021 JANUARY BACK TO SCHOOL GIFTS

With the dawn of the New Year, it is back to school for all learners in Kenya and despite the raging pandemic world over, the government has carefully crafted a return to school plan to help protect the students against Covid 19 both while at home and school.

Our sponsored children are excited to resume learning after months of staying home due to the global pandemic that led to all schools closing indefinitely. Also given that Kenya has no homeschooling plan in its education system, there is no way she could have kept up with her syllabus.

Armed with books, stationery, full school uniform, and more, students are ecstatic and eager to go back to school and see their peers.

SEPTEMBER 29, 2018 SCHOOL VISIT

We went to Mwangaza Secondary School to see Josephine Nafula. She is in grade 9 and she does so well in school. Josephine performs well in all subjects apart from Math. We talked to her class teacher in detailed and asked him to make some follow up and step in heavily for her success.

Her overall performance was good. She is really determined to pass her final exams highly for her to be independent and help others in return. We got from her teacher that she is so disciplined and she shows good moral to the school at large.

february 2018

After receiving many generous donations, Josephine was able to join our program for the 2018 school year! Give Amore team member, Judith, and her family have also agreed to adopt Josephine into her family. Here are the photos of all the supplies we gifted her with. What a joyful new beginning for this bright young lady.

january 2018 Josephine’s story:

Having undergone the very brutal a girl her age can ever withstand without breaking, one Josephine Nafula is a devastated girl. The 16-year-old orphan, and only child to the late Patrick and Consolata, has spent most of her lifetime being shuffled from one homestead to another. This is all due to lack of the good-will to shoulder her school and upkeep costs by her relatives, the only ones she has left to look up to after the demise of her parents four year ago.

Prior to meeting her, Josephine lived with her aunt in a city slum. Engulfed with dire poverty, her aunt painstakingly struggled to take care of her and her cousins until she called it quits due to economic pressures, and thus, once again, Josephine had to move.

The only place she could call home was her mother’s birthplace in Kakamega, western Kenya, a perceived safe haven she never thought would turn tragic. While in the confinement of those she trusted, she faced multiple sexual abuses and among them possible rape attempts orchestrated by her uncles and grown male cousins.

With all these hard hitting on her, Josephine is depressed and attempted suicide several times, which thankfully didn’t succeed. She thus ran away from home.

In her search for help, she wandered into a local administrative office in her location, which directed her to us for help. Right now, this young girl is homeless, hungry and insecure.

While talking to us, Josephine admits tension of going back home amidst fears of unknown confrontations from her own family now turned foes. She currently temporarily stays at a family friend’s home and sadly her allowed time there is wrapping up.

With the support of food, clothing and school fees, the 9th grader could be accommodated at the Cornerstone Mission Orphanage, a conducive place for security and peace of mind she so badly needs.
